2026 in Galway so far
Galway has had 16 listings on the national portal, seven of them cost rental and all seven from Tuath or Galway City Council. The one full scheme was An Tobar on the Letteragh Road in Rahoon: 41 one, two and three-beds from €1,125, advertised by Tuath in September 2025, with a single three-bed re-let at €1,640 in May 2026. Everything else has been one to five homes at a time: three-beds at Claí Mór in Ballybrit (€1,600 in 2025, a one-bed at €1,100 from the City Council in January 2026) and Ard Raithní in Bearna (five three-beds at €1,590 in July 2025, then single re-lets at €1,590 in August 2026 and a two-bed at €1,380 the same month). Galway counts as outside Dublin, so the cost rental income limit is €59,000 net, and a €1,380 rent needs about €47,300 net a year under the 35% rule.
Affordable purchase has been the larger channel here. Galway City Council sold 14 homes at An Tobar (from €310,000, September 2025), 29 at Radharc na Tornóige on the Headford Road (from €234,980, April 2026, with five one and two-beds re-advertised in August) and 25 at Slí na hAbhann on the Ballymoneen Road (from €305,000, April). Galway County Council covered the county towns: 17 homes at Garraí na Gaoithe in Claregalway (from €245,000, 2024), 8 apartments at Garraí na Sailí (from €285,000, February 2025), 33 three and four-beds at Fearann na hEascrach in Athenry (from €340,000, April 2026) with 37 more three-beds from €345,000 advertised in September, and three homes at An Móinéar Ard in Kinvara (from €326,147, May). Pattern for the rest of 2026: council purchase schemes in Athenry and the city, and Tuath re-lets in Rahoon, Ballybrit and Bearna, usually one home and one week.
